아이가 태어나
내 품에 안았을 때
나에게 빚이 있었음을 알았다.

부모에게서,
그 부모에게서
이어져 온
생명의 빚.

그들 또한
나를 세상에 보내며
그 빚의 일부를
갚았으리라.

생명을 건넨
이들은 떠나며
자리를 비운다.

내가 살아가는 세상은
그렇게 빌린 자리.

언젠가 갚아야 할
죽음의 빚이다.

생명을 받고 건네고
자리를 쓰고 비우는
이어짐.

그것이 영원의 모습이 아닐런지...

* A Sketch of Eternity

When a child was born
and I held them in my arms,
I came to know
that I owed a debt.

From my parents,
from their parents,
the debt of life
was passed down.

They, too,
when they sent me into the world,
must have repaid
a part of that debt.

Those who gave life
depart,
leaving their places empty.

The world I live in
is a place
borrowed in this way.

A debt of death
to be repaid one day.

Receiving life and passing it on,
occupying a place and leaving it empty:
such is the way life continues.

Could this be
the shape of eternity...
