그는 천하를 주유하기 시작했다.
그렇게 세상을 바라보며 지내다 보니 그간 수행했던 무예와 도가 무엇이었는지도 가물거렸다.
그는 오히려 그것이 좋았다.

세월이 지날수록 그는 혼자 생각하고 대화하는 것에 익숙해졌다.
그는 세상을 바라보고 있었지만 왠지 자신의 마음 깊은 내면을 보고 있는 느낌이었다.

'도(道)라는 것이 잡고자 쫒는다고 닿는 것이 것이 아니라던 사부님의 말씀이 이제야 이해가 가는구나!'

수십 년 전에 돌아가신 사부의 인자한 웃음이 떠올랐다. 수많은 제자들과 지낼 때와 달리 지금은 천하에 혼자이건만 전혀 외롭지 않았다.

신선이 노닌다는 선유도의 기운이 그의 검 끝으로 모여들어 거대한 자연의 흐름을 이루고 있었다.
그의 입가에 그의 사부가 지녔던 깊은 미소가 맺히기 시작했다.

He set forth and wandered beneath the boundless heavens.

As the long years ebbed and flowed and the dust of the mortal world brushed past him without end,
the arts he had once honed and the Way he had pursued thinned like mist at dawn,
yet within that fading his heart grew light, as though a burden unseen had been set down.

In solitude he came to dwell as one long accustomed,
thought arising of itself, words returning into silence.
Though his gaze fell upon mountains and rivers, it was not the outer world he beheld,
but the deep current turning within his own being.

'Only now do I come to understand the words once spoken by my master.
That the Way is not a thing to be seized nor reached by pursuit!'

The smile of his master, long returned to the void, stirred once more within his heart.
In ages past he had stood among many voices,
now he remained alone beneath heaven and earth,
yet his spirit was full and without want.

At the tip of his sword the unseen gathered and stirred,
not wind, not light, yet bearing the weight of both.
As though the breath of Seonyudo, where immortals roam beyond the mortal coil, had descended without sound,
it coiled and unfurled, drawing heaven and earth into a single breath,
a boundless current without edge or end.

He neither willed it nor restrained it,
and thus it became.

Upon his lips there settled a smile,
deep as still water unshaken by the wind,
the very echo of his master's presence lingering beyond time.
